Whiskey Canyon Fire
Wildfire Status:
The Whiskey Canyon Fire ignited on Monday, July 22nd and is currently approximately 1,246 acres in size with 50% containment. The fire is primarily on private lands with some portion on BLM-managed land, but no immediate threat to structures. Fire crews have completed dozer and retardant lines around the fire perimeter, and as of July 23rd, fire behavior was minimal with creeping and smoldering. Control lines are in place, and crews are working on securing the fire perimeter and mopping up control lines.
The total personnel involved in the response is 30, with the fire currently 100% contained. Fuels involved include brush and short grass. The planned actions include continued patrol and monitoring for the next 24 to 48 hours, with containment achieved at 7 p.m. PT on July 24. Responding agencies include BLM, Lander County, and Nevada Division of Forestry, with resources such as aircraft, engines, dozers, water tender, and personnel on site.
Weather concerns include high fire potential due to near-record heat in northern Nevada, mixed wet/dry thunderstorms spreading north/east, and gusty winds with low relative humidity moving into northwestern Nevada.
