Wildfire Status:

The Camp House Fire, which ignited on May 11, 2025, near Brimson, Minnesota, has rapidly expanded to encompass approximately 13,407 acres due to dry conditions and strong winds. The fire is currently fueled by a significant amount of dead timber, especially in areas afflicted by spruce budworms. As a result of the fire's aggressive behavior, including crown fires, at least 146 structures have been destroyed, leading to mandatory evacuations along Highway 44 and adjacent communities. Evacuation centers have been set up to provide assistance to those displaced by the fire, while road closures, including sections of Highway 44, hinder access to the affected areas.

Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by the Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Brian Jenkins. The response includes a variety of resources such as engines, bulldozers, and aerial assets aimed at protecting structures and establishing containment lines. However, fire activity has complicated access, with damage to wooden bridges and falling trees posing additional challenges for suppression efforts. Furthermore, smoke from the fire has prompted air quality alerts across northeastern Minnesota, impacting residents with respiratory issues.

As of the latest updates, the fire management team continues to focus on full suppression of active fire zones while preparing for a community meeting scheduled for May 19, 2025. This meeting will provide updates and information for residents affected by the Camp House and nearby Jenkins Creek Fires. The situation remains dynamic, and agencies are actively working to mitigate the fire's impact while ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
