Frog (IDSTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Frog Fire, which ignited on September 7, 2024, due to lightning, has now grown to encompass approximately 3,105 acres. Currently, the fire is 42% contained, with active firefighting efforts ongoing. The fire is situated near Little Boulder Creek off the East Fork of the Salmon River, and the local authorities, including the Custer County Sheriff Department, are providing evacuation information as necessary.

Firefighting personnel have mobilized a total of 231 individuals to combat the blaze. The current approach focuses on utilizing both ground and aerial resources to manage the fire's spread, particularly on the north and west flanks. Planned actions include preparing structures for potential protection and conducting chipping operations along key corridors, like Highway 75.

Weather conditions are currently favorable for limiting fire spread, with showers and thunderstorms forecasted, potentially bringing significant rainfall. The expected precipitation is anticipated to moderate the threat to nearby structures, although gusty winds accompanying the storms could pose challenges. As conditions stabilize, firefighting teams will continue to adapt their strategies to leverage the improved weather while remaining vigilant for any changes in fire behavior.
