Nugget Fire (IDSCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Nugget Fire, which ignited from a lightning strike on September 13, is currently located approximately 40 miles west of Salmon, Idaho, within the North Fork Ranger District of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The fire has burned through an area of 1,001 acres, primarily affecting grass and brush, and is situated on cliffs above the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. As of now, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. Fire managers have advised the public to avoid the Nugget and Cradle Creek drainages due to the fire's location in previously burned areas from 2005, 2013, and 2015.

The response from fire agencies has been focused on monitoring the situation, with no personnel currently assigned to active firefighting efforts as the fire activity has been reported as minimal. The incident is under the supervision of the North Zone Duty Officer, and updates regarding the fire will be provided every Monday in the Salmon-Challis National Forest Fire Summary, or sooner if significant changes occur.

Weather conditions are favorable for containment, with light winds expected and an initial round of rain and snow moving into the area overnight. This weather pattern is predicted to continue through the weekend, which may further assist in suppressing any remaining fire activity. Overall, the Nugget Fire is currently stable, with no immediate threats to the surrounding communities.
