Wildfire Status:

The Garden Fire, ignited by lightning on September 8, is currently located approximately two miles southwest of the confluence of Panther Creek and the Main Salmon River within the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, Idaho. As of the latest update, the fire has burned a total of 13,036 acres and is fully contained with 100% of its perimeter secured. The fire's behavior has diminished significantly, with only minimal creeping and smoldering observed. The predominant fuels involved include short grass and timber, which have entered dormancy, reducing the potential for significant fire activity.

Fire agencies are actively monitoring the situation and have implemented a plan for ongoing patrol and mop-up operations to mitigate any potential threats to nearby values at risk, particularly along Panther Creek and the Salmon River Bridge. The current personnel assigned to the incident is minimal, reflecting the reduced threat level. The Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 7, led by Incident Commander Chris Delaney, is overseeing these operations.

Weather conditions are favorable for containment efforts, with seasonably cool temperatures prevailing. The forecast indicates unsettled weather with a series of Pacific systems expected to bring rain and snow showers throughout the week, contributing to high relative humidity and further dampening any remaining fire activity. High temperatures are projected to remain in the 30s and 40s, further limiting the potential for any fire behavior beyond smoldering. Overall, the outlook is positive, with minimal fire activity anticipated in the coming days due to the expected precipitation and cooler temperatures.
