Wildfire Status:

The Burnt Creek Fire, currently affecting an area of 2,665 acres, was first detected on August 13, 2024. Located in the Burnt Creek area within the Big Creek drainage and extending to the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, the fire has exhibited very minimal activity in recent days. As of September 9, the situation appears stable, with firefighting efforts focused on a Zone/Point Protection Strategy. This strategy includes implementing a structure protection plan for nearby values at risk, particularly important in this wilderness area known as the Frank Church River of No Return.

Fire agencies are actively monitoring the situation and maintaining readiness to respond should conditions change. Given that the fire's activity has decreased significantly, the emphasis has shifted towards safeguarding structures and managing potential impacts on recreational activities, especially rafting along the Middle Fork Salmon River. For any rafting-related concerns, the public is advised to contact the Salmon-Challis National Forest River Desk.

The weather conditions in the region have contributed to the reduction in fire activity, which is a positive sign for firefighting efforts. However, ongoing vigilance is necessary to ensure that the situation remains under control as the fire season progresses.
