Wildfire Status:
The Oak Ridge Fire, located approximately three miles northwest of Beulah, Colorado, has been active since June 22, 2024. As of the latest update, the fire has spread across 1,310 acres, with 89% of its perimeter contained. The incident is currently managed by a Type 4 Incident Commander, which transitioned from a Type 3 Incident Management Organization on July 14, 2024. Despite the fire's size, there have been no evacuations mandated, although road closures are in effect for the Pike-San Isabel National Forests due to safety precautions.
Firefighting efforts have included both aerial and ground resources. Air resources initially worked to slow the fire's advancement while ground crews scouted safe access points. The fire is exhibiting minimal behavior, primarily creeping and smoldering, with suppression actions and natural barriers effectively limiting its spread. The current fire environment is classified as moderate to high, with expectations for conditions to worsen through the weekend. Nevertheless, the forecast indicates an increase in moisture and cloud cover, which may aid suppression efforts in the coming days.
As of now, 54 personnel are engaged in containment and suppression activities, with planned actions focusing on continued suppression repair utilizing both hand and mechanized equipment in specific divisions. The estimated containment date is set for July 24, 2024. The fire's cause has been attributed to lightning, and authorities continue to prioritize the safety of both firefighters and the public throughout this incident.
