Turkey Track (CO0212)

Wildfire Status:

The Turkey Track fire, located 8 miles north of Woodland Park, Colorado, has now reached a size of 128 acres and is classified as a Type 4 incident. As of April 16, 2025, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The incident began on April 12, 2025, and was caused by human activity, which is currently under investigation. The fire has primarily affected grass and timber with dead and downed trees, creating hazardous conditions due to shooting debris.

In terms of response, fire agencies have deployed a total of 31 personnel to manage the situation. The incident commander, Aaron Lund, has directed resources effectively, and due to the moderating weather conditions, there are plans to transition the fire's management to an Incident Command Team 4 by the end of the day. Fire behavior has been described as minimal, and the expectation is that no further growth will occur after the passing of a cold front.

Current weather conditions have posed some challenges, as the area is experiencing a wind event. However, it is anticipated that once this event subsides, weather conditions will improve significantly, reducing concerns for fire spread. The agencies involved remain vigilant, prepared to handle any potential breaches in containment lines, although the overall outlook is optimistic for the continued stability of the fire situation.
