Turkey Track (CO0212)

Wildfire Status:

The Turkey Track wildfire, located 8 miles north of Woodland Park, Colorado, is currently classified as a Type 4 incident. As of April 16, 2025, the fire has burned approximately 128 acres and is reported to be fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The incident began on April 12, 2025, and is believed to have been caused by human activity, which is still under investigation. The fire area consists of grass, as well as dead and downed trees, contributing to its complexity.

Fire response efforts have involved a total of 31 personnel, who have successfully managed to contain the fire with minimal behavior reported at this stage. The incident commander, Aaron Lund, has indicated that due to moderating weather conditions, the fire management team is planning to transition the operation to a Type 4 Incident Command Team by the end of the day. The containment strategy has been effective, and no significant fire growth is anticipated following the passage of a cold front.

Current weather conditions include a wind event affecting the area; however, it is expected that these conditions will stabilize soon, leading to a more favorable environment for firefighting efforts. After the wind event subsides, fire growth is not anticipated, allowing responders to focus on post-fire recovery and monitoring the area for any potential flare-ups. The situation remains under close observation to ensure the safety of the surrounding community and environment.
