Wildfire Status:

The 2025 Buffalo Fire, an active wildfire located near Marksville, South Dakota, was reported on April 11, 2025, and has since posed significant challenges to firefighting efforts due to rapidly changing winds and dry conditions. The fire, which is characterized as a grassland fire with pockets of shrubs and sage, was declared out on April 24, 2025, following some wetting rains across the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. However, the incident command noted ongoing hot spots that could rekindle due to the persistent drought conditions and high winds typical for the season.
