HAOE LEAD (NCNCF)

Wildfire Status:

The HAOE LEAD Fire, which was first reported on April 12, 2025, is currently active and burning within the Joyce Kilmer Slickrock Wilderness in the Cheoah Ranger District of the Nantahala National Forest, approximately 7 miles west of Robbinsville, North Carolina. As of now, the fire has burned an area of approximately 3,103 acres and is 57% contained. The incident is being managed under a full suppression strategy, emphasizing the safety of both the public and firefighters.

Firefighting efforts are complicated by the rugged terrain, remote location, and challenging weather conditions, including high winds and low humidity. Air resources are being deployed as weather permits to assist ground crews in battling the blaze. Fire agencies are actively working to establish containment lines and minimize the fire's spread, while also prioritizing safety measures for personnel and nearby residents.

An area closure order has been issued for the "Haoe Fire Area" within the Nantahala National Forest to restrict public access and ensure the safety of both the firefighting crews and the community. Local support has been invaluable, and as of April 24, 2025, the management of the fire is being transitioned back to local authorities, thanking them for their assistance and cooperation throughout the incident.
