Watch Fire (AZSCA)

Wildfire Status:

The Watch Fire, located approximately 30 miles east of Globe, Arizona, has reached a total size of 2,162 acres and is now fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. Fire activity has been minimal, primarily limited to the interior of the fire where isolated smoldering remains. Firefighters have reported no active heat sources detected via aerial infrared assessments, indicating that the fire is largely under control. Personnel will continue patrolling the area to monitor for any signs of resurgence in fire activity.

In terms of response, a total of 145 personnel are currently engaged in operations related to the Watch Fire. All evacuation orders have been lifted, and evacuation shelters remain open at San Carlos High School, Apache Gold Casino, and Michael Noline Memorial for those in need. The fire management team is conducting ongoing efforts to secure fire lines and provide assistance in local initial attack scenarios, particularly in relation to the neighboring Buckhorn Fire, which is still active and expanding.

Weather conditions in the area are a mixed bag; while there is potential for isolated shower activity that could help suppress any remaining heat, the shift in high-pressure systems also raises concerns about potential lightning strikes, which could ignite new fires. The forecast indicates a continued likelihood of afternoon thunderstorms in the region, presenting both a risk and an opportunity for fire management efforts.
